Mayakabo Resort, Mexico

Dana had an ACOG board retreat, this time in Mayacabo, Cancun, Mexico. The weather could not have been more beautiful - clear skies, gentle breezes, lows of 75° and highs of 84°. We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel, and it could not have been nicer. The staff there is simply amazing. I have always enjoyed Mexico, but this was outstanding.

Unfortunately, I took a little bit of a virus with me (Thank you, Parker Fong!) and didn’t feel well for the first day and a half. By the last day, I was ready to go, but had fairly limited time to enjoy things. Dana didn’t get sick, but everything was scheduled so tightly with her meeting that she hardly had time to get out. Other than a single foray to the beach one afternoon, she was pretty much limited to outside receptions and courtyard breaks between meetings.

Because she had meetings so late the final day, we had to fly through Miami instead of returning through Dallas. The good news, though, was since we left on a Saturday, the customary two hours or more to get through security and passport control took just less than 30 minutes.

Entry into the US gets faster and creepier each time we do it. Instead of providing fingerprints, scanning our passports, and answering a series of questions, the Global Entry kiosks just took our photos and issued our voucher. That’s my second disturbing run-in with facial recognition technology. It’s convenient, but it still gives me the willies.
