July 4!

July 4!

The annual July 4 celebration in Nichols Hills, the single most important social event in the neighborhood. Think bicycles all decked out in red, white, and blue bunting with foil stars cascading from handlebars], the neighborhood band playing patriotic marchesi the park gazebo, and city fire engines leading the parade with lights blazing and sirens wailing. Most important, and I cannot overemphasize this, the giant snake makes its annual appearance. Over the years, the snake may change, but it is always huge and the kids always love it.

This year, the Fong boys found the snake particularly fascinating. Parker was especially entranced and couldn’t keep his hands off. And this year Sarah Blakley joined us. All in all, a very good Indepence Day.
